With Ford Motor Company discontinuing the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor a huge gap was created along with some major automakers discontinuing production of sedans, the SUV in most cases has stepped up to fill that role. They provide a larger platform giving the officers more room for themselves and  their equipment.
